Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences |
Students attending Delta State University have the unique opportunity to become involved in Center projects as a volunteer or by establishing an internship. Students may browse the CCED program descriptions and contact the CCED Faculty Associate in their department to begin the process. If their department does not have a CCED Faculty Associate the student may contact the program’s leader directly for more information. |
Mission/Goal |
The goal of the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences is to introduce students to the fields of speech-language pathology and audiology. The department further strives to provide students with the foundation they will need in order to be successful in their careers upon graduating from Delta State University. |
Program Description |
The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences offers pre-professional instruction leading to the Bachelor of Science degree. The department also operates a clinic for diagnosis and/or therapy for a wide range of communicative disorders, including language difficulties, speech pathologies, and auditory disorders. As a discipline of allied health, academic and clinical work in the department introduces the student to diagnosis, classification, and management of a broad spectrum of communicative disorders in preparation for graduate and/or professional studies in order to enter a career as a practicing specialist. For more information please visit the program degree web page. The Speech and Hearing Sciences program works in conjunction with the CCED to offer students valuable volunteer and internship opportunities with CCED programs. Such experience allows students to take what they learn in the classroom and apply it firsthand while serving local communities. |
