What is National Board Certification?

This is a demonstration of teaching practice as measured against high and rigorous standards. It represents commitment to excellence in teaching.Certification signifies exemplary teaching, sets uniform standards nationwide, offers professional and personal growth, fosters reflective practice, complemens state licensing, and fulfills requirements for re-licensure.

National Board Certification is organized around five core propositions:

  • Committment to students and their learning
  • Knowledge in subject areas and strategies for teaching them
  • Responsible for managing and monitoring student learning
  • Systematically think about their practice and learn from experience
  • Be an involved member in the learning community
