History
Delta State redesigned an educational leadership program in the 90's for training school principals. In 1998, the first Educational Leadership Cohort at Delta State began with 15 candidates. To date, over 140 students have been trained to continue on to careers like superintendent, principal, and district level administrative personnel.
Kudos
  • 144 candidates have completed the program, with 122 currently serving as administrators in Delta area schools.
  • All candidates in the cohorts groups have passed the SLLA (School Leaders Licensure Assessment)
  • 2 program graduates have been named Milken Award Winners, while numerous others have been named Principal/Administrator of the Year
  • Positions held by graduates: 3 Superintendents, 1 Assistant Superintendent, 52 Principals, 46 Assistant Principals, & 18 District Level Administrators
Structure
Cohort members complete a 13 month full-time program. the program consists of 39 credit hours towards a Master's or Specialist's Degree in Educational Leadership, with a variety of significant field experiences and practica integrated with classes held on campus.

The admissions committee holds high standards and is very selective. Delta State works closely with local school districts to recruit candidates; however, the process is open to all potential candidates.

If selected, members of the new cohort begin the program on June 1st of each year.

  • 27 Delta area school districts have supported program candidates
  • 128 candidates have been supported by the Mississippi School Administrator Sabbatical Program
  • 154 candidates have been supported by the Delta Education Initiative/Delta Health Alliance Tuition Scholarships
  • The current partnership with the Delta Health Alliance (DHA) has provided over $1M in scholarship support.
