Freshmen Admission Requirements - 2012

Full admission to Delta State University will be granted to high school students graduating 2012 or later who complete one of the following:

1. The College Prep Curriculum* (CPC) with a minimum 3.2 GPA.

2. The CPC with a minimum 2.5 GPA and score at least 16 on the ACT (760 on SAT) or rank in the upper 50% of your class and score at least 16 on the ACT (760 on SAT).

3. The CPC with a minimum 2.0 GPA and score at least 18 on the ACT (860 on SAT).

4. Satisfy the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) standards as a full qualifier under Division I guidelines.

►College Prep Curriculum

English: (4 Carnegie Units) Courses must require substantial communication skills.

Mathematics: (4 Carnegie Units) Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and any one Carnegie unit of comparable rigor and content.   

Science:  (4 Carnegie Units) Biology I, Chemistry I, and any two Carnegie units of comparable rigor and content. (Biology II, Botany, Chemistry II, AP Chemistry, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, AP Physics B or C, Physics, Physics II, Physical Science). 

Social Studies: (4 Carnegie Units) US History, World History, US Government, Economics, World Geography, Mississippi Studies.

Advanced Electives: (2 Carnegie units) Foreign Language (I and II), Advanced World Geography, or any combination of English, mathematics, or lab-based science courses of comparable rigor and content to those required above.

Arts: (1 Carnegie unit) Includes the use of visual and performing arts course(s) meeting the requirements for high school graduation.

Computer Applications: (1/2 Carnegie unit) Course should emphasize the computer as a productivity tool. Instruction should include the use of application packages, such as word processing and spreadsheets.

Pre-High School Units: Algebra I, first-year foreign language, or Mississippi Studies taken prior to high school will be accepted for admission provided course content is the same as the high school course.

Admission decisions are based on the completion of the College Prep Curriculum, GPA, and ACT or SAT scores. Students who do not meet the full admission requirements may be admitted after successfully completing the Board approved Summer Developmental Studies Program.
