The overall purpose of the DELTA Project is to prepare and support school leaders and teachers to work in the high needs Mississippi Delta regions where there is a critical shortage of leaders and teachers.

The DELTA Project prepares beginning leaders and teachers to create healthy school environments and develop healthy, high-achieving students who can have a positive impact on the economic viability and quality of life in communities across the Mississippi Delta region.

The DELTA Project provides continued professional development and support to practicing leaders and teachers to assist in rentention of quality personnel in Delta area schools. Development and retention of high quality leaders and teachers is imperative to improving the health and achievement of students in the Delta area. Educated, healthy citizens constitute a stronger workforce and contribute to the economic viability and quality of life in Delta communities.

Delta State graduates acquire the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to educate children and develop healthy, high-achieving students.

Program graduates are prepared to lead the systematic change needed in Delta schools to create safe and healthy environments for children and youth that ultimately impacts the economic viability and quality of life in the Delta region.

The Leadership Development program provides scholarships to selected candidates in preparation for school leaders and teachers. The program also collaborates with Delta area schools to create healthy, high-achieving schools in the 18 county region served by the Delta Health Alliance.

The DELTA Project provides the opportunity to complete significant internships in high quality school sites. The program also provides continued professional growth and development for teachers and leaders in Delta area schools through the Leadership Institute

Participants in the Leadership Development program complete a 14 month program of study, with either a master's or specialist degree. They are eligible to obtain initial administrative licensure upon passing the School Leader Licensure Assessment required by the State of Mississippi.
