Job Summary: This is a 12-week position to assist personnel in the areas of Finance, Treasury and Internal Audit. The Accounting student intern will customize a rotation plan based on areas of interest to include a minimum of three of the following Accounting-related areas:

• Financial Reporting: Prepare subsidiary financial statements; Assist with monthly close-out and creation and analysis of GAAP financial statements to be distributed to Executive Management on a monthly basis
• Regulatory Monitoring: Assist with preparation of quarterly statutory financial statements and supporting analyses; Participate in quarterly earnings forecasting; 
• Budgeting & Forecasting:Participate in budget variance analysis
• Cost Accounting: Assist in development and review of time reports and production reports to develop cost accounting estimates on a monthly basis; 
• Accounting Operations: Assist Accounts Payable in the review and analysis of vendor contracts and proposals to ensure proper accounting treatment of significant Corporate expenditures
• Tax: Assist in preparation of annual tax returns and quarterly estimated tax payments; Assist in preparation of quarterly GAAP and statutory tax provisions; Assist in research of various tax issues
• Accounting Information Systems: Assist in development of data extraction tools; Assist in testing and verification to ensure integrity of Accounting Information Systems
• Investment Accounting: Assist in the preparation of monthly investment schedules; Assist in the preparation of weekly GAAP journal entries; Assist with investment reconciliation between custodian and general ledger
• Cash Management: Assist in development of daily cash flow analysis; Assist with bank fee analysis
• Internal Audit: Assist in the completion of Internal Audit projects which contribute to the compliance of BCBSMS policies and procedures and effective internal controls

Job Specific Requirements: Must be enrolled in a college working towards a degree in Accounting and have successfully completed Intermediate Accounting I. Strong P.C. skills required, which include Microsoft Office Products. Must have a 3.25 GPA.

The Rating Veterans Service Representative (RVSR) serves as a specialist and decision maker for claims involving rating issues. This position is a trainee position at the GS-9 level, designed to lead to the journeyman (GS-12) position. Note: If selected for this position, you will be required to attend a 3-week off-site training course and pass a certification test prior to being promoted to the GS-12 level.
