Message from the Chief

We are proud to be part of a university that not only stresses excellence in education, but also is greatly concerned about the safety of its students, faculty, staff and visitors.  We have been providing law enforcement and public safety services to the university community for forty years now.  However, there are many individuals who are not aware of who we are and the vital role we play in supporting the University’s mission.

The Delta State University Police Department is staffed by professional commissioned police officers.  All officers must complete the required training as established by the Mississippi   Peace Officer Standards and Training Board.  Once this requirement is met, continuous in-service training is provided for all officers. The major focus of this training is college and university campus safety.

In addition to our officers, the Delta State University Police Department is staffed by a professional group of clerical, communications and support units.  As Chief of Police of this fine institution I am very proud to have such a dedicated staff of men and women providing the level of public safety necessary to ensure that our university community’s trust and support is well founded.

It is my hope that during your visit to Delta State University you will find not only a feeling of safety but also a feeling of friendliness that exceeds your expectations.
