Admissions Requirements - Undergraduate
Delta State University establishes and maintains admission requirements for students.

The Admissions Office is established to coordinate the University’s entry process and to admit a student population that will play a vital role in achieving the mission of the University and contribute knowledge, understanding, and leadership to our culture. The staff is expected to perform duties that support this purpose.
- Complete the College Prep Curriculum* (CPC) with a minimum 3.20 GPA
- Complete the CPC with a minimum 2.5 GPA and score and at least 16 on the ACT (at least 760 on the SAT)
- Complete the CPC with a class rank in the upper 50% and score at least 16 on the ACT (at least 760 on the SAT)
- Complete the CPC with a minimum 2.0 GPA and score at least 18 on the ACT (at least 860 on the SAT)
- Satisfy the NCAA standards as a full qualifier under Division I guidelines
* College Prep Curriculum
English: (4 Carnegie Units) Course must require substantial communication skills.
Mathematics: (3 Carnegie Units) Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry.
Science: (3 Carnegie Units) Biology, Advanced Biology, Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry, Physical Science, Physics, Advanced Physics, or any other science course with comparable rigor and content.
Social Studies: (3 Carnegie Units) United States History (1 unit), World History (1 unit), Government (1/2 unit), Economics (1/2 unit), or Geography (1/2 unit).
Advanced Electives: (2 Carnegie Units) Foreign Language, World Geography, 4th year Laboratory-based Science, or 4th year Mathematics.
Computer Applications: (1/2 Carnegie Unit) The course should include use of application packages, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
Eighth Grade Units: Algebra I or first-year foreign language taken in the eighth grade will be accepted for admission provided course content is the same as the high school course.
The Board of Trustees of the Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL Board) for the State of Mississippi has mandated the following modifications to the admissions policy:
All entering freshman enrolled at an Institution of Higher Learning university will be required to successfully complete specific college preparatory course work during their first semester of college if they fall under one of the following categories:
1. Entering freshman with an ACT Mathematics subtest score of 16 or less will be required to take Intermediate Mathematics.
2. Entering freshman with an ACT English subtest score of 16 or less will be required to take Intermediate English.
3. Entering freshman with an ACT Reading subtest score of 16 or less will be required to take Intermediate Reading. Students taking Intermediate Reading should not be permitted to take courses in Literature and Social Sciences.
4. Students taking two or more intermediate courses must enroll in the year long Academic Support Program and will not be permitted to take more than 17 semester hours, including intermediate courses and the Academic Support Program.
Any student transferring to Delta State from an accredited institution, other than one of Mississippi’s eight state-supported universities, must be eligible to return to that institution and attain a 2.00 GPA in the following 24 semester credit hours:
6 semester hours English Composition
3 semester hours College Algebra or higher math
6 semester hours Laboratory Science
9 semester hours Transferable Electives
International students must submit the following information:
1. An official high school or college transcript translated to English
2. Official score results from the ACT, minimum composite 21, or SAT, minimum composite 980
3. Official results from the TOEFL, minimum score is 195 for computer based version
4. A financial statement, dated within the last six months
5. Documentation from a physician stating student is free and clear of tuberculosis
6. Documentation of immunization record
7. Documentation of health insurance
8. A valid passport
9. A valid F-1 student visa
