Delta State Bands

Delta State University has much to offer to both the music major and the non-music major who simply enjoys participation in instrumental music ensembles. The Department of Music features a wide variety of large instrumental ensembles for students in all majors:

The WIND ENSEMBLE, DSU's premier concert performing organization, performs several times during the school year on campus and throughout the state. Members of the Wind Ensemble are selected through competitive auditions. The ensemble performs challenging traditional and contemporary works for wind band.
The SYMPHONIC BAND meets in the Spring semester and is open to all wind, brass, and percussion students. The ensemble performs traditional and contemporary works for wind band.
The MARCHING STATESMEN, JAZZ BAND, and BASKETBALL PEP BAND (which awards additional scholarships) offer additional performance opportunities for instrumentalists.
The band program is under the direction of Dr. John Wojcik.

The Marching Statesmen
The Marching Statesmen, along with the Delta Belles and the Color Guard, performs for home football games and marching band festivals throughout the state.

The Jazz Ensemble
The Jazz Ensemble, an eighteen-piece big band, performs a wide variety of music, from swing to bebop to hip hop. Members of the ensemble are selected through competitive auditions. The Jazz Ensemble is directed by Dr. Paul Hankins.
