Bachelor of Music

The Bachelor of Music (B.M.) degree is for those students who wish to concentrate their studies in the development of professional music skills. Students pursuing this degree are preparing for careers in performance and graduate study. Entrance levels are the highest for this degree and assume a prior background in performance or applied music study. Admission to the program is based on the candidate's potential to develop a high level of musicianship.

 Bachelor of Music Education

The Bachelor of Music Education (B.M.E.) degree is designed to train and educate students to become teachers of music. Students pursuing this degree generally teach music in public or private schools. This curriculum provides graduates with a comprehensive preparation for K-12 certification to teach in the Mississippi public schools. The degree also provides foundation for advanced certificates and graduate degrees.

Bachelor of Arts

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree is a non-professional degree that provides opportunities for wider exploration in the liberal arts. The B.A. in music allows students to study music theory, music history, individual performance, and play in ensembles but offers additional study in another academic area as a minor. Graduates often pursue careers in music but also find occupations in a variety of fields. Graduates may also pursue advanced degrees in the liberal arts and music.
