These DMI courses are currently listed under the College of Arts and Sciences in the course catalog, under the title of DMI (Delta Music Institute) and SRT (Sound Recording Technology).

DMI 100: Introduction to Multimedia: iLife
This course is designed to introduce students to Digital Arts skills and the Macintosh OS. The focus is on the creation of music, video, digital photography and web pages using Apple's iLife suite that is preinstalled on all Apple computers.

DMI 102: Computer Skills for Musicians (Required course for all DMI/SRT students)
Intro to MIDI, Sequencing, Sampling, Software Instruments, and Audio Editing that uses 2 different digital audio workstations.

DMI 110: The Craft of Songwriting
An introduction to the craft of popular songwriting. Topics include analysis of song form and structure, development of lyric and melody, comparison of styles and genres, and nurturing individual creativity. Professional and student songs critiqued in class.

DMI/SRT 111: Recording Studio Theory and Practices I
An introduction to engineering techniques and equipment used in recording contemporary instruments and voice as well as small ensembles. (DMI 111 is a 3 hr. credit with extra lab)

DMI/SRT 112: Recording Studio Theory and Practices II
Pre-requisite SRT/DMI 111
An introduction to hard disk recording by using and developing skills learned in Theory and Practices I, as well as new skills that cover computer software.  (DMI 112 is a 3 hr. credit with extra lab)

DMI 114: Live Sound Engineering
This is an introduction to some of the techniques and ear training involved in live sound reinforcement.

DMI 116: Music Fundamentals for Recording Industry
An introduction to reading and writing music. Topics include key and time signatures, scales, song form, melody, harmony, chords, and the Nashville Number System. (For non-music majors)

DMI/SRT 221: Advanced Audio Editing and Mastering
Pre-requisite DMI 102
A detailed examination of capabilities, tools, and techniques used to edit digital audio in multiple software environments; examination of capabilities and tools used in mastering.

DMI 235: Scoring for Film, Theater, and Digital Media
Pre-requisite: DMI 102
Scoring for Film, Theater and Digital Media introduces students to writing and arranging music for visual art/commerce and also includes Foley, dialog replacement and basic sound design.

DMI 300: Indie Music Entrepreneurship
This course is designed to give students an overview of various topics related to the preparation of a comprehensive independent music project. Topics will include setting goals, budgeting, pre-production, music publishing, promotion, sales and marketing.

DMI 310: The Business of Songwriting
Pre-requisite DMI 116 or MUS 150/151
A continuation of th study of the craft of popular songwriting, along with an introduction to music publishing and marketing.  Topics include co-writing, specialty markets, demo production, song contracts.  Professional and student songs are created and critiqued in class.

DMI/SRT 322: Critical Listening
Pre-requisite DMI/SRT 112 and DMI/SRT 221
Introduction to principles and applications in sound system design and construction, monitoring theory, musical acoustics, and acoustic psychology. (DMI 321 is a 3 hr. credit with extra lab)

DMI/SRT 331: Audio Monitoring & Mixing I
Pre-requisite SRT/DMI 322
Audio recording, mixing theory and application.

DMI 161/361: Instrumental Ensemble/Ol' Skool Revue
Pre-requisite: Instructor approval/audition
Performance band featuring the hits of the blues, R&B, soul and funk genres.

DMI 162/362: Instrumental Ensemble/DeltaRoX
Pre-requisite: Instructor approval/audition
Performance band featuring the hits of classic rock.

DMI 370: History & Practice of Electronic Music
Covers the history of electronic music and uses current technology for students to recreate specific styles of electronic music.

DMI 421: Independent Studies in Electronic Music
Pre-requisite DMI 102
This course is designed to give students an opportunity to work independently in the Computer Lab; to apply skills and techniques learned in Computer Skills for Musicians, History and Practice of Electronic Music, Computer Music and elsewhere toward the realization of a creative electronic music or digital audio project.

DMI/SRT 441: Senior Project
Senior project.  Advanced theory and applications in audio recording, mixing, and mastering for producing a comprehensive, production-ready audio master.

DMI 461: The Blues
A cultural and historical overview of the Mississippi Delta Blues and the people, places, and social conditions that produced it.  Students will gain a greater appreciation for the general genre, individual styles and performers, and historical significance of this important art form.

DMI 492: Independent Studies in Audio Engineering
This course is designed to give students an opportunity to work independently in the DMI recording studios; to apply skills and techniques learned in Recording Techniques I & II, Critical Listening, Audio Mixing and elsewhere toward the realization of an audio recording project.

DMI 492: Music Business Contracts & Copyrights
Basic music business and legal principles in the areas of music publishing, recording contracts, and booking agreements, artist management, touring, and merchandise.
