The Delta State University College of Education recently changed its name to the College of Education and Human Sciences. Though historically associated with teacher preparation, a strong tradition that continues today, the College of Education has grown to encompass diverse programs that call on individuals to study a range of human sciences.
With a host of programs representing counselor education and psychology; family and consumer sciences; health, physical education, recreation, and athletic training; and educator and leadership preparation, the College prepares individuals across a broad spectrum of fields. Each engages learners in the study of the human sciences—across topics such as cognition and learning, human motivation, counseling, and various aspects of human physical and mental development.
“It is important that the name of the College represent inclusively those fields of study in which students engage through their respective programs,” said Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences Dr. Leslie Griffin. “The name change more accurately reflects not only the range of disparate programs, but the commonalities of study among them as well.”
