Abstract
The Delta INTech proposal builds on a three-year plan to equip and train educational faculty to use computer-driven technology. From a condition of absence of technology in 1996, the College of Education has acquired two labs, a multimedia level computer on each faculty member's desk, and a basic skills level of application. Labs are equipped with laser printers, color inkjet printers, scanners, digital cameras and camcorders, digital monitors, LCD projectors, and connection to the Internet through the University's network.
A minimum of twelve faculty pioneers from education, arts and sciences, and business will initiate comprehensive teacher preparation improvements that infuse technology throughout the teaching and learning experiences:
- Faculty members will prepare and implement lesson plans for infusing technology into their classes using the Louisiana INTECH model developed by the Louisiana Department of Education for teacher training.
- Faculty members will identify and require students to use discipline and age appropriate data sources on the Internet and software that support higher order processes, State benchmarks and ISTE standards.
- Students will demonstrate knowledge and skills to prepare and implement instruction-technology lessons using the Louisiana INTECH model and a variety of media and tools, such as Internet, web page development, authoring tools, digitized images, portfolio tools, scanning, desktop publishing, and electronic classroom.
In summary, the Capacity Building project will include acquisition of new learning; faculty development; curricular redesign; and formation of cross-disciplinary partnerships among departments and between the institutions of higher learning and the K-12 community.
