Safety Tip of the Week
Subject: Severe Weather November 06, 2008
We want to remind you and our community that we are once again entering the autumn severe weather season. Our region of Mississippi has actually suffered more injuries and deaths during the November-December time period than in the spring. Please take the time to remind everyone to pay attention to weather forecasts and to keep an ear tuned to storm sirens and weather alert radios when the possibility of severe weather is about. Planning ahead about where to seek shelter during a severe storm (a storm shelter, sturdy interior room, or in a low area if caught outdoors and its not at risk of being flooded), taking action to secure objects such as lawn furniture, and not to cross flooded areas are all things important to public safety.
Thursday, November 06, 2008, will present the first such risk of severe weather here in the Delta – the National Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK has issued a slight risk for severe storms for the afternoon and evening (http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/). This risk will amplify as the seasonal weather pattern changes with new storm fronts next week.
