Woodwind Chamber Ensembles concert coming to BPAC

The Delta State University Department of Music presents the Woodwind Chamber Ensembles concert Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center.

The Delta State University Department of Music presents the Woodwind Chamber Ensembles concert Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bologna Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. The event features the DSU Saxophone Quartet and the DSU Flute Ensemble.

The DSU Flute Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Shelley Collins, associate professor of music, will be joined by Josh Armstrong, assistant professor of percussion. Members of the ensemble include: Amanda Corkran of Olive Branch; Elizabeth Long of Burnsville; Amanda Lutz of Horn Lake; Rosemary O’Quin of Ellisville; and Laura Strong of Olive Branch.

Performing music spanning five centuries, the group will play dance music from the Renaissance, parlor music by Steven Foster, a 20th century lullaby, and Bamburia, a 21st century work for flutes and clapping, influenced by Spanish flamenco rhythms.

The DSU Saxophone Quartet, under the direction of Dr. Bret Pimentel, assistant professor of music, will perform works by Orlando Gibbons, Béla Bartók, Victor Williams, Ted Petersen and George Gershwin, reflecting a variety of musical styles from the Renaissance to the Jazz Age. Members of the ensemble are Colby Kee of Southaven; Rory Young of Corinth; Sara Crider of Purvis; and Kevin Sherman of Ellisville.
