International Business Symposium returns March 28-29

Delta State University’s College of Business and Aviation will host the 13th annual International Business Symposium on campus March 28-29. Events will kick off at 3 p.m. March 28 at the Baioni Conference Center in Broom Hall. The theme this year is “Dream Big, Achieve Bigger.”

The annual symposium is sponsored by David and Sherry Abney, Mississippi Delta natives who currently reside in Atlanta. David Abney, a 1976 graduate of DSU, began his career as a part-time United Parcel Service (UPS) package loader while in college. He now serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board for UPS, the world’s largest package delivery company. Abney is the eleventh CEO in the 107-year-history of UPS.

“Sherry and I wanted to do something meaningful for the Delta. By bringing global leaders onto campus and sharing their experiences with students, I believe we’ll be able to expand Delta State students’ horizons in how they see and prepare for their futures,” Abney said in a previous Delta State interview.

Along with Abney, the schedule will feature four distinguished speakers, all Delta State graduates:

*Laird Hamberlin: Hamberlin returns to the symposium to share his expertise. He received his bachelor’s in business administration from Delta State before going on to become the vice president of sales and commercial for Terminix (a division of ServiceMaster). Prior to being an equity investor of ServiceMaster and taking the company public in June 2014, he worked for various conglomerates including UTC Climate, Controls and Security, where he served as president of the access controls division.
*Karen Fitzgerald: Fitzgerald is an independent consultant and Lexus achiever with Rodan+Fields, a premium skincare company, in which she leads a team of over 1,200 people who produced over $4.8 million in sales in 2017. She is a Greenville native and completed her degree at Delta State in 2007 in food and nutrition sciences. Fitzgerald began working with Rodan+Fields in 2011, and has since risen to the top two percent of the company.
*Rodney Francis: Francis is the director of human resources for the Nissan North America vehicle facility in Canton, Mississippi. A native of Conroe, Texas, Francis has been a resident of Mississippi for more than 20 years. He received his Bachelor of Science and MBA from Delta State, where he also lettered in basketball. He began his career in HR at Baxter Healthcare in Cleveland, and after years of progressive growth in the profession, he joined the Nissan HR team in 2014.
*Danny Lipe: Lipe has provided value-added strategic guidance, effective management and high-level finance solutions throughout his career in banking and finance. Lipe is a 1985 graduate of Delta State a bachelor’s in accounting. In 1997, he obtained his MBA from the University of Notre Dame. His career has included senior level positions in various industries including furniture retail, investment brokerage, banking and poultry. Originally from Greenville, Lipe resides in Miami, Florida.

12th annual International Business Symposium set for March 29-30

Delta State University’s College of Business will hold the 12th annual International Business Symposium on March 29-30.

The theme for this year’s symposium is business innovation, focussing on how businesses must remain innovative in both macro and micro aspects.

The symposium is sponsored by David and Sherry Abney, Mississippi Delta natives who currently reside in Atlanta. Abney, a 1976 graduate of DSU, began his career as a part-time United Parcel Service (UPS) package loader while in college. *Teresa Hubbard: Hubbard is president and CEO of CITE ARMORED, a company which provides every level of service for the armored vehicle industry, including manufacturing, refurbishing, repair and part replacement. She is well-versed in business operations, staff supervision, sales and marketing and financial analysis and management. Hubbard received her bachelor degrees in accounting and CIS from Delta State.
*Rodney Scaife: Scaife serves as vice president and chief human resources officer for CPA Global-North America, the world’s leading intellectual property (IP) management and IP technology firm company. He previously held international positions as head of HR operations for PANDORA Americas, with oversight for the U.S., Canada, Mexico, South America, Central America and the Caribbean. Scaife studied business administration at Delta State before completing his executive education studies at Cornell University’s Center for Advance Human Resources Studies.
*Josh West: West serves as CEO and co-founder of Blue Delta, a bespoke denim manufacturing company. Blue Delta jeans are made in the U.S.A with globally sourced premium raw materials. The company sells jeans in over 44 U.S. cities and abroad with accounts in Toronto and London. West is a 2005 graduate of Delta State, where he served as student body president.

International Business Symposium celebrates 10 years

Delta State University’s Division of Management, Marketing and Business Administration proudly presents the 10th annual International Business Symposium beginning at 8 a.m. April 1 at the Baioni Conference Center in Broom Hall.

This year’s program features top-ranking international business professionals, whose knowledge and experience is renowned and spans the globe. Senior business officials will provide a unique look at trends in the business world.

The symposium is sponsored by David and Sherry Abney, Mississippi Delta natives who currently reside in Atlanta. Abney, who began his career as a part-time package loader while in college, now serves as Chief Executive Officer for United Parcel Service (UPS), the world’s largest package delivery company. Abney is the eleventh CEO in the 107-year-history of UPS.

Abney, a Delta State alumnus, previously served seven years as Chief Operating Officer for UPS, where he was responsible for UPS logistics, sustainability and engineering. In these roles, Abney directed all facets of the UPS transportation network serving more than 220 countries and territories.

A 1976 graduate, Abney studied business administration at Delta State and was named the 2007 Outstanding Alumnus of the Year. To this day, he serves on the Delta State University Alumni Foundation Board of Directors.

Through UPS, he has traveled the world on business, but his Mississippi Delta roots are forever ingrained.

By bringing global leaders onto campus and sharing their experiences with students, I believe we’ll be able to expand Delta State students’ horizons in how they see and prepare for their futures,” Abney said in a previous Delta State interview.

Joining Abney as a featured lecturer is Diana Einterz, executive vice president, Direction des Grands Clients, Orange Business Services. She is responsible for leading the team of professionals serving the 250 largest orange customers.

Einterz’s orange career spans more than 15 years and includes a series of global leadership roles directing large organizations dedicated to serving customers all over the world. Prior to becoming head of the Americas, she was head of Regional Operations and led a team of more than 2,100 technicians and support staff that delivered world-class installation and maintenance services to multinational corporations in more than 220 countries and territories.

Also presenting is Laird Hamberlin, a graduate of Delta State’s business administration program. Hamberlin is an equity investor and vice president of sales for American Home Shield — a division of ServiceMaster — since April of 2012.

Hamberlin joined AHS from UTC Climate, Controls and Security, where he served as president of the Access Controls division. Hamberlin was responsible for developing and executing plans to drive continued growth and expansion for the business worldwide, which includes Onity, a leading global provider of electronic locks and energy management systems and Lenel, a leading provider of enterprise software, integrated systems and access control systems.

Finally, Dr. Jeffrey Rosensweig will complete the distinguished list of speakers. Rosensweig is the director of the Global Perspectives Program at Goizueta Business School of Emory University. Previously, he served for six years as an associate dean. An international business and  finance professor, he focuses his research, teaching and consulting on global investing and business in the global economy. He also specializes in financial, macroeconomic and business forecasting.

Active in executive education, Rosensweig was recently selected by the Wall Street Journal as one of the 12 favorite professors in all executive MBA programs worldwide.
