New initiates were welcomed into a historical organization last week at Delta State University. Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, received 11 new members at Delta State.

The charter organization began in December of 1914 at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va.

“The Delta State University Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa evolved from the local leadership honor society,” said Julie Jackson, advisor. “It was formally installed at Delta State in May 1971. Since its establishment, the Circle has endeavored to recognize campus leadership among students and faculty and has especially emphasized the value of free exchange of ideas among campus leaders and between student and faculty members of the Circle.”

ODK was founded on the value of exceptional leadership from students and faculty members. Currently, Delta State’s Omicron Delta Kappa is made up of 35 student members and 45 faculty and staff members. The group is led by President Shelby McIntire, Vice President Dave Triplett and Faculty Advisor Dr. Wayne Blansett.

New members for fall 2013 include Jerrick L. Cheeks, Ashley Nicole Clinkscales, Briana Bosworth Davey, Matthew W. DeFillips, Carolyn Elizabeth Howe, Lucretia Johnson, Steve McClellan, Laura Elizabeth Morgan, Brett Oleis, Dimitrius Sneed and Kristen M. Williams.
