The Delta State University Student Alumni Association recently held their second annual toy drive for area children this Christmas. SAA President Amy Scott encouraged members to donate a toy and support the initiative.

“I am so excited that we’ve had great participation again this year,” said Scott. “It’s a good way for students to be able to give back to our community.”

The toys are being donated to the Cleveland Police Department’s “Shop with a Cop” program. Now in its 18th year, the program identifies needy and deserving children in Cleveland who get the chance to pick out a toy for Christmas.

“I’m so proud of our SAA members because this was an initiative that they took entirely upon themselves,” said Jordan Thomas, assistant alumni director and SAA advisor. “They felt the need to help children in our area, and I think it’s important for our students to get involved in our community.”

Toys are still being collected at the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni-Foundation House. For more information, contact the Alumni office at 662-846-4660.
