Last Sunday, the world-famous ensemble The King’s Singers delivered an incredible performance at the Bologna Performing Arts Center.   One of the world’s most celebrated ensembles, The King’s Singers are instantly recognizable for their spot-on intonation, impeccable vocal blend, flawless articulation of the text, and incisive timing.  The group performed their “Friends” program, which feature classical music alongside more contemporary pieces that showcase artistic friendships and collaborations, such as Gilbert and Sullivan’s Savoy Opera melodies.  The audience thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, and was delighted to get to meet The King’s Singers after the concert for pictures and autographs.  The concert drew patrons from throughout Mississippi, including the cities of Jackson and Vicksburg, as well as from Louisiana and Tennessee.

The King’s Singers were in the Delta as part of their three week tour throughout the United States.  Paul Phoenix, tenor, remarked that the Bologna Performing Arts Center was not the only Bologna the group would visit that year, as they will be performing in Bologna, Italy in December 2012!  David Hurley, who has been a member of the group for 22 years, wrote that the group has “been enjoying a bit Southern hospitality in Cleveland, Mississippi….after our Sunday afternoon concert in Delta State University’s excellent Bologna Performing Arts Centre.”

On Monday morning, The King’s Singers led a master class for the Delta State University Chamber Singers.  Directed by Dr. Nicholaus Cummins, the Chamber Singers performed three pieces for the British a cappella group who offered feedback and guidance for the choir.  “What a fantastic sound this group makes” said Hurley after hearing the Chamber Singers perform their first piece.  “I could listen to you guys all day,” observed Phoenix.  “It’s so rare these days to see just proper, natural, open singing.”

The Bologna’s next event is Shrek the Musical, based on the Oscar®-winning DreamWorks film, on Friday, November 16 at 7:30pm.  For more information, call the Ticket Office at (662) 846-4626 or visit www.bolognapac.com.
