Registration open for Mississippi Summer Arts Institute

The Janice Wyatt Mississippi Summer Arts Institute at the Bologna Performing Arts Center is accepting applications for 2015 programs.

The 2015 Janice Wyatt Mississippi Summer Arts Institute at the Bologna Performing Arts Center is now accepting applications for its annual summer programs.

For the past 17 summers, the MSAI has impacted the lives of countless emerging artists by providing a one-of-a-kind opportunity for students to gain broad exposure in all artistic disciplines. The goal of MSAI is to encourage young artists to begin or continue their pursuits in the fine and performing arts. Youth from across Mississippi and beyond will be setting their sights on MSAI activities again this summer.

Core Arts, occurring June 7-20, is a two-week residential camp for ages 12-18. Core Arts provides a positive and supportive environment for students who wish to gain exposure to the arts or aim to further develop their creative abilities. Students stay on the Delta State University campus, take classes in various art forms with Delta State professors and professional teaching artists during the day, and participate in fun activities at night. Courses are offered in dance, literary arts, music, theater and visual arts. Core Arts culminates with a visual arts exhibition and literary arts reading, as well as a final performance which demonstrates the talents of the campers. Partial scholarships are available based on financial need and artistic merit. An optional non-residential track is also available for ages 12-13.

Young artists ages 5-11 are invited to attend PLUS Camp from July 13-18 — a high-energy, performance-oriented day camp centered on learning a choreographed medley of songs. Campers also attend other classes throughout the day, such as prop design, storytelling, puppetry and music. A final performance on July 18 showcases the hard work and dedication of the campers. PLUS Camp promotes the artistic development and creativity of its young artists.
