Several Lexington High School and Central Holmes Academy alumni recently gathered in Cleveland to congratulate Olivia O’Reilly, a freshman psychology major from Pickens, as the first recipient of the Woodson Earle Scholarship at Delta State University.

The Woodson Earle Scholarship honors the legendary teacher and coach who is a member of the Delta State University Sports Hall of Fame and had extensive success coaching at Lexington High School, Central Holmes Academy and Holmes Community College. The scholarship fund was initiated in 2007 by three of his former football players from the Lexington High Hornets – Don Barrett, Kirk Povall and Hunter Cade and provides financial assistance for Central Holmes Academy graduates. The scholarship is part of Delta State University’s Scholarship Initiative, the largest concentrated effort to raise support for scholarships in the history of the university.
