Forty teachers from across Mississippi recently participated in a two-week heritage workshop presented by the Delta Center for Culture and Learning at Delta State University.

The workshop entitled “The Three R’s of the Mississippi Delta:  Roads, Rivers and Railways”  was funded by the Mississippi Geographic Alliance, and was designed to help teachers integrate geography into their curriculum.

Participants rode on the Illinois Central railroad and a JanTran towboat, toured numerous museums, and met with experts who talked about Highway 69, the Delta’s ancient forests, flood control, and the ethnic heritage of the region.

Dr. Mark Bonta served as the geography instructor, and Lee Aylward and Luther Brown coordinated the experiences.
