By January 16, 2013General

Liz DavisThe Delta Music Institute, a recording arts and music industry studies program at Delta State University, will host its third “Delta Night at Hal & Mal’s” on Saturday, January 26, beginning at 7:30 p.m. “Delta Night” will promote the music of Mississippi and Delta State’s music industry studies program by featuring performances by various musical acts, most notably Mississippi reality television star Liz Davis. Davis, a native of Madison, was the first place winner of the interactive talent show P. Diddy’s Starmaker as well as a Top 20 finalist on the hit reality series The Voice.

The Delta Music Institute houses two cover bands of college students that will be performing at the event. Ol’ Skool Revue is an R&B/funk/soul/blues band playing the hits of Motown, Memphis, and Muscle Shoals while DeltaRoX delivers chart-topping songs from the genre of Classic Rock. Additional DMI students performing will be singer/songwriter Reed Smith, EDM artist Argiflex, and dupstep group Basshouse. Also scheduled to perform will be the DMI All-Stars who will be travelling to Los Angeles during February to perform for Mississippi Night during GRAMMY week.

Argiflex“The music industry studies program at Delta State University is growing as a unique program, offering courses in recording technology, music business, songwriting, production, and much more,” says DMI Director Tricia Walker. “Our studio facilities are second to none. That fact added into an interactive, small college experience with low student to instructor ratio, offers students a unique learning environment.” Walker adds, “The DMI program has been structured in such a way as to offer students hands-on, project-based learning opportunities as often as possible, such as working in real recording sessions and at actual festivals and live venues. You can’t beat that for an educational experience.”

There will be a $5.00 cover charge for the “Delta Night at Hal & Mal’s” event on Saturday, January 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Hal & Mal’s, located at 200 Commerce St., Jackson, MS. For more information, contact Hal & Mal’s at 601-948-0888 or the Delta Music Institute at 662-846-4579.
