The Delta State University Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Paul Hankins, will present its annual spring concert at 7:30 p.m., April 22, in the Delta and Pine Land Theatre of the Bologna Performing Arts Center.
The Jazz Ensemble is a 16-18 piece big band populated by both music majors and non-music majors. A wide variety of music is programmed throughout the year with musical styles ranging from swing, bebop, fusion, funk, to salsa, Brazilian, New Orleans groove, and hip hop.
The evening programming will include Cole Porter’s “It’s All Right with Me Cole” and “Act your Age” by Gordon Goodwin.
Dr. Bret Pimentel, assistant professor of woodwinds, will be featured on saxophone playing “Georgia on My Mind” by Hoagy Carmichael.
The concert is free and open to the public.
