A three day program entitled Delta School Health Leadership Institute was held at Delta State University, Feb. 8-10, for about 40 School nurses, teachers, counselors and food service administrators, collectively known as school health council members.

The training program offered those in attendance intense interaction with school health educators who are dedicated to providing safe, healthy and orderly schools. These health educators are recognized as leaders in school health, safety and they offer best practices, as well as the latest ideas and issues. The first two days were structured for school health council members and last day was designed for school administrators.

The agenda of the workshop was designed to strengthen leadership skills and increase professional competency related to safe, healthy and orderly schools. Participants had a chance to interact in small and large group discussions, as well as hands-on activities.

The Delta School Health Leadership Institute was presented by the Mississippi Department of Education, Delta Area Association for Improvement of Schools and Delta State University.

The Institute was supported by grant funds through Delta Health Alliance which received support for the training program through a U.S. Department of Health and Human ServicesHealth Resources and Services Administration grant.
