GRAMMY Museum Mississippi Groundbreaking at Delta State

  A groundbreaking ceremony for the GRAMMY Museum Mississippi will be held at Delta State’s Derrall Foreman Golf Course on Tuesday, June 11 at 5 p.m.

The event was organized by Cleveland Music Foundation and will take place on the green at the fifth hole near Highway 8 on the golf course.

Gov. Phil Bryant will present a check for $2 million to the project. Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and Sen. Willie Simmons are scheduled to speak at the groundbreaking event. Deputy Director of GRAMMY Museum at L.A. Live in Los Angeles Rita George will also address the crowd.

Cleveland Mayor Billy Nowell and Bolivar County Board of Supervisors President Andrew Williams will make remarks at the event.

A reception at the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni/Foundation House will follow the program. Live entertainment will be provided by the Mississippi native band Homemade Jamz beginning at 7 p.m.

The museum is projected to open in the summer of 2015. The 20,000 square foot facility will showcase Mississippi’s role in shaping American music through the genres of blues and country and feature interactive exhibits.  

A student exchange program will be implemented for Delta Music Institute (DMI) students. Opportunities to earn college credit and work with peers at colleges and universities near Los Angeles will be offered to students in the accredited program of music industry studies at Delta State.
