CLEVELAND, Miss. – Winter Storm Leon reared its ugly head this week depositing freezing rain and snow across much of the deep south. With snow and ice accumulations hampering travel in and out of parts of Alabama and Mississippi, Delta State University director of athletics Ronnie Mayers announced that Thurday’s men’s and women’s basketball games have been moved to Monday, Feb. 3 with tipoff times set for 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
“After consulting with the administration at the University of West Alabama, we knew that they would have a hard time getting out of Livingston today,” Mayers said. “We always want to err on the side of caution when we are talking about student-athlete safety. We hope everyone will be able to adjust their schedules and come support the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen on Monday night.”
Saturday’s schedule versus the University of Alabama in Huntsville has not been affected. The No. 11 ranked Lady Statesmen (14-2, 9-1 GSC) tipoff versus the Lady Chargers at 2 p.m. followed by the No. 15 ranked Statesmen (16-2, 9-1 GSC) versus the Chargers at 4 p.m. inside Walter Sillers Coliseum.
