National Home Movie Day

October 17, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

HomeMovieDay_Oct2015.eps

Home Movie Day, a celebration of amateur film started by a group of film archivists in 2002, occurs all over the world in mid-October. Like the celebration of a birthday, HMD is a very individualistic affair; each event is unique.

The public is invited to drop by their home movies to the DSU Archives during the week of October 12 – 16, 9am – 5pm. The film will be checked and reviewed for viability to run on prescribed equipment for the viewing party on Saturday, 17 October.

Even if you did not submit a home movie for the project, everyone is invited to attend the viewing party on Saturday, 17 October beginning at 10am in the Charles W. Capps, Jr. Archives & Museum building on campus.

The 1940’s Ruleville Beauty Review, scenes from Delta Council’s 1963 meeting at Delta State, downtown Shaw in the 1960’s and a Homecoming parade will be featured clips from the University Archives’ collections along with those brought in by the public.

While some may enjoy the entire program, please feel free to come and go as you need throughout the day.

We are excited to have Ashley Smith, PhD candidate from the Department of Media Studies at Stockholm University, on site to handle many of the film handling and viewing procedures. We are also looking for volunteers who may want to help out with the day’s activities. If you would like to volunteer an hour or two to support National Home Movie Day, please contact Emily Jones at ejones@deltastate.edu or by calling 662.846.4781.
