History At Play: Delta State’s Sports & Recreation Programs

September 1, 2010 @ 12:00 am - December 8, 2010 @ 12:00 am

From old photographs to ‘campfire stories’ shared between friend, this exhibit highlights a selection of courses, programs and special events that Delta State students have had the opportunity in which to participate through the Health, Physical Education and Recreation division . Original class schedules offered tennis, archery and a variety of dramatic interpretive classes to get students involved in physical fitness and activity. Through the 1970’s and into the 1990’s, specific professors took on active leadership roles in developing clubs and introducing classes which offered students another level of physical activity such as camping trips, white water rafting and other "high adventures". Today, professors in the HPER division offer classes and trips geared to attract and challenge active students or students who want to explore outdoor recreation activities. At each turn, Delta State has encouraged its students to seek out adventure, test their limits and try something new. This exhibit features a portion of the collections held in the Archives dedicated to preserving the history of these programs, students, professors and community members.
