Film Premier of Honor & Duty

The University Archives & Museum is pleased to invite the public to a free premier of the film “Honor and Duty: The MS Delta Chinese,” sponsored also through the generosity of the Quality Enhancement Plan and the MS Delta Chinese Heritage Museum on Sunday, 1 May at 2pm in the Bologna Performing Arts Center’s Recital Hall.
Following the screening, a short Question & Answer session will feature executive producer, Samantha Cheng along with authors Dr. Gwendolyn Gong (originally from Boyle, MS) and her husband, Dr. John Powers. Dr.’s Gong and Powers along with their daughter, Devereux Gong Powers, authored and donated a manuscript to the University Archives called “The Mississippi Delta Chinese Veterans of World War II: A Delta Tribute”. The book and DVD copies of the film will be available for purchase at the event.
Heritage Series executive producer E. Samantha Cheng invites the public to a preview screening of “Honor and Duty: The Mississippi Delta Chinese,” the story of the Chinese families who settled in the Magnolia State. The screening is set for Thursday, April 28 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in the Mississippi Public Broadcasting auditorium in Jackson, Mississippi.
Heritage Series Executive Producer E. Samantha Cheng states, “the documentary film opens with the Chinese making their journey to Mississippi in the 19th century. This unique story shows how Chinese families built an enduring kinship and friendship through small town markets and grocery stores in the Delta. The documentary draws on the memories of the Chinese WWII veterans and their families who stepped forward to serve in the war.”
“This wonderful and comprehensive documentary film series tells many of the life stories of the courageous WWII Mississippi Delta Chinese veterans and families,” said Gilroy Chow, president of the Mississippi Delta Chinese Heritage Museum. “It chronicles their often arduous lives before and after the war in a clear and flowing way.”

The three-part documentary “Honor and Duty: The Mississippi Delta Chinese” airs Sunday, May 1 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on MPB TV.
An encore presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11 at 10 p.m.
