The following emergency response outlets will be engaged:
OKRA ALERT (text and email messages)
Campus Police emergency lights, sirens, and loud speaker announcements
Official University social media outlets (Facebook and Twitter)

The following points for tornadoes are noted in the EMERGENCY OPERATION GUIDELINES:Tornado Watcho    A tornado watch means that weather conditions are favorable for the formation of a tornado.

Tornado Warning

o    A tornado warning is issued when a tornado has actually been sighted in the surrounding area. Faculty, Staff and Students will be alerted to impending dangerous weather through the OKRA ALERT via text and email.***

o    Storm Warning Sirens will be activated.

The sirens emit a continuous sound warning. Campus Police will also drive thru campus sounding their car sirens.

Tornado Protection Procedures

o    OKRA ALERT and pop up messages will notify personnel when a tornado warning is in effect. Radios should then be monitored in administrative offices.

o    When given instructions to go to a designated tornado safety area, open the windows clear the classrooms, and direct individuals to a shelter area. If there is no designated shelter, a first floor interior hallway, room or closet away from windows and doors shall serve as a shelter area.

o    Keep hallways clear by standing against the wall. When a tornado approaches, all individuals should assume kneeling position facing the wall with heads bent down.

o    Stay away from doors and windows.

o    Laboratories should be secured.  Shut off gas burners or other laboratory equipment which could cause additional health and safety concerns.

o    Do not leave the shelter area until the “all clear” has been given.

o    The following areas should be considered “off limits” during a tornado evacuation:

Near outside doors

Any location on the upper floors of buildings

Any outside area

Near windows

NOTE:  THE CITY OF CLEVELAND STORM WARNING SIRENS WILL NOT BE ACTIVATED DURING THIS DRILL

This drill should last no longer than 15-20 minutes. Your participation and cooperation are encouraged as we go thru this training procedure. Yours and other lives may depend on this training should an actual tornado strike our campus.
