Evening of chamber music to be presented at Delta State

By March 2, 2009General

The Delta State Department of Music will present an evening of chamber music on Tuesday, March 10, at 8 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center on campus.

Dr.  Douglas Mark will be performing on trombone, along with Delta State music faculty Dr. Paul Hankins, trumpet, Dr. Jung-Won Shin, harpsichord/piano,), Dr. Larry Bradford, percussion,  Anne-Gaëlle Ravetto, violin, and percussion students Mandi King of Carthage and Amber Horton of Forrest City Arkansas.

The program will feature some seldom heard instrumental combinations and highlight three distinct musical time periods.

The first work of the evening, “Sonata a 3,” is a selection by baroque composer J.H. Schmeltzer, and combines harpsichord, violin, trumpet and trombone.  The second selection is Johannes Brahms’ “Waldhorn-Trio, op. 40.” While originally written for violin, piano and French horn, the trombone will replace the horn part.  The third and final work of the evening, Charles Small’s “We’ve Got Rhythm,” offers a blend of contemporary and jazz idioms.  The piece is written for trombone, piano and percussion.

The recital is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Music Department at (662) 846-4615.
