DMI student records GRAMMY supported music video

Delta Music Institute student Jessica Faith recently recorded a music video as a winner in the 2014 GRAMMY® Amplifier Center Stage contest.

Delta Music Institute student Jessica Wishard, known musically as Jessica Faith, recently had the chance to shoot a music video for her song “Without a Fight” as one of three winners of the 2014 GRAMMY® Amplifier Center Stage contest.

Contest winners had to choose between a recording session with a leading GRAMMY producer; an opening act performance slot on a major tour or music festival; or a professionally produced music video.

“I didn’t know what I expected but I knew what I hoped for,” said Faith. “It was all that and better.”

“Without a Fight” is a song about determination and defiance rather than defeat.

“It’s about walking away from an uncomfortable situation, not with your shoulders hunched but your head held high,” she said.

On the video set, Faith experienced things she was not accustomed to, as people tended to her smallest needs.

“It was weird — I was being treated like I was somebody,” she said.

Although she was in her shining moment, Faith admitted that it was intimidating to walk into a room with a bunch of professionals, adding that it was uncomfortable to try on countless outfits just to fit Jessica Faith’s image.

Director Matt Singleton and Executive Producer George Flanigen worked on the production in Nashville, Tenn. A band supported the young singer while she was filmed playing the piano.

“They let me have the piano at first as a security blanket, or a ‘wubbie’ as George Flanigen called it,” she said. “Then we moved on to the scenes where I did more acting.”

The DMI student admitted that her favorite part of the experience was seeing everything come to life on set.

“It was amazing to see how much care goes into the little details,” she said. “The set designer took care of a range of things from pillows on the couch to a passport and faked plane ticket.”

Faith said she ultimately learned a lot about the music business and herself.

She currently performs at a variety of venues as a client of the student-run Fighting Okra Talent Agency and plans to record and release an album this year.
