DMI Music Industry Workshops to be offered at Morrison Brothers Music

Music industry instructors from the Delta Music Institute at Delta State University will be offering free workshops on several industry topics on Saturday, November 21, from 2 -5 p.m., at Morrison Brothers Music located at 27 Dyess Rd. Ridgeland. Workshops will be held as part of DMI Daze, featuring students, bands, and instructors from the Delta Music Institute, a recording arts and music industry program at Delta State University. There is no charge for the workshops and pre-registration is not necessary. Instructors for the workshops include DMI Director Tricia Walker and DMI Instructors Mike Iacopelli and Barry Bays. 

 
Walker is a 30-year veteran of the music industry, having spent the majority of her career based in Nashville as a singer/songwriter, producer, and music publisher. She has written award-winning songs, evidenced by Alison Krauss receiving a Grammy™ for her recording of Walker’s song, “Looking in The Eyes of Love.” She returned to Delta State to lead the Delta Music Institute in 2006. Walker will be leading a workshop entitled, “Songwriting 101: It All Begins with a Song.”
 
Mike Iacopelli is the chief audio engineer at the DMI and serves as the coordinator of Sound Recording Technology for the institute. He has worked as a recording and mastering engineer in studios in Detroit, Nashville, and Memphis, and has worked with a range of artists, including Aretha Franklin, Parliament Funkadelic, and Bishop G. E. Patterson. Iacopelli will be presenting a workshop entitled, “Basics of Studio Recording: The Good Rule.”
 
Instructor Barry Bays has performed with nationally and internationally known artists, including Shawn Lane, Kenny Brown, “Big” George Brock, and more. Bays directs DMI’s two performing bands, Ol’ Skool Revue and DeltaRoX. He will be leading the workshop, “The Working Musician: How to Survive.”

In addition to the workshops, DMI bands, Ol’ Skool Revue and DeltaRoX, will be performing throughout the afternoon. Ol’ Skool Revue plays the hits from R&B, Soul, Funk, and Blues while DeltaRoX plays songs from the genre of American Classic Rock.
