Delta States New Music Ensemble to perform in concert

By April 9, 2009General

The New Music Ensemble will perform on the campus of Delta State University on Monday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center.

To prepare for this concert, the ensemble posted a call for scores to members of the Society of Composers, Inc. Over 50 composers, from places as far away as Italy and Canada, sent works for the group to consider for performance.

The works to be performed on this concert were selected from these submissions and include duos for soprano and alto saxophone, flute and trumpet, flute and glasses and a trio for flute, oboe and clarinet.

The New Music Ensemble is co-directed by Dr. Mark Snyder, assistant professor of music production and technology, and Dr. Andrea Cheeseman, associate professor of music.

In its first year of residency, the ensemble has performed at the Jay Etkin Gallery in Memphis, and at the 2008 Delta State Electoacoustic Juke Joint Festival.

This concert is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the DSU Music Department at (662) 846-4615 or the Delta Music Institute at (662) 846-4579.
