Delta State University Community Drumming and Dance Experience to Present Concert

The sounds of Africa will be once again be ringing through the Mississippi Delta on Tuesday, April 2 as The Delta State University Department of Music presents the Delta State University Community Drumming and Dance Experience in Concert.  The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Jobe Hall Auditorium.
 
The concert will include traditional and contemporary drumming, dance, and songs from Ghana, Guinea, Nigeria, and South Africa.  
 
This performance will feature the beautiful South African apartheid song, Senzenina, arranged and led by Delta State University music major Ashley Bobo.  Also featured will be music major Beth Allman singing lead on Sawale, a popular Nigerian high-life song.
 
The group, led by Delta State University music faculty Karen Fosheim and Josh Armstrong, recently completed a four-stop tour of Mississippi, including a special Black History Month performance at the B.B. King Museum in Indianola.  
 
Fosheim said of this performance, “There’s a little something for everyone, with a mix of Afro-pop and contemporary and traditional drumming selections.  The dancers are prominently featured and the diverse talents of the group are shown through performance on a variety of traditional and modern African and Western instruments.”
