Delta State University Alumni Association Announces 2013 Homecoming

By March 1, 2013General

Delta State University recently announced Homecoming 2013 has been set for the weekend of November 1 and 2. The Statesmen will face Valdosta State University in the annual Homecoming game at Parker Field.

Throughout the weekend, the Alumni Association has a variety of activities planned. This year’s featured class is the class of 1963. The featured class will celebrate 50 years since graduating from Delta State, and they will be inducted into the prestigious Golden Circle. The Golden Circle is a constituency group of the Alumni Association that honors alumni who graduated 50 years or more ago.

“It doesn’t get much better than celebrating DSU Homecoming in the heart of the Mississippi Delta,” said Henry Outlaw ’61, Golden Circle president. “I encourage all 50 plus year graduates to be back on campus for this year’s festivities.”

The National Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Foundation Board of Directors will meet Friday, November 1. Friday night, the Alumni Association will host the annual Alumni Awards and Gala Dinner at Walter Sillers Coliseum. The banquet will honor the recipients of the Alumni Association awards, and the featured class will be inducted into the Golden Circle. Homecoming is also an excellent time to think about giving to the Anniversary Scholarship, which goes to students who need financial help to finish their last semester of college.

“Homecoming is a special time for alumni and friends, faculty and staff, and students to stay connected to their alma mater,” said Jeffrey Farris, director of alumni affairs. “The Association has the opportunity to recognize alums that have played a vital role in the life of the university.”

Alumni should also be on the lookout for the Association’s Homecoming Publication, which will be in homes three weeks prior to Homecoming. This publication, a benefit of being a member of the Alumni Association, is packed with a complete schedule of events, and it features the Alumni Association Award Recipients. The Alumni Association will be taking nominations for award recipients until May 3, 2013.
