Delta State to offer new round of classes in February

By January 23, 2009General

Delta State University’s Division of Graduate and Continuing Studies will offer a new round of classes in February that includes a self defense class for women, how to buy and sell on eBay, an instant piano class and a GMAT prep workshop.

Women’s Self Defense 101 class

Many people think of self-defense as a karate kick or jab in the eyes of an attacker. But self-defense actually means doing everything possible to avoid fighting someone who threatens or attacks you. Self-defense is all about using your smarts — not your fists.

Under the instruction of Bobby Moore, the class is scheduled to meet on Feb. 17, 23 and March 3 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Delta Martial Arts Academy in Cleveland.

Registration fee is $75.

How to Buy and Sell on eBay

Are you tired of looking at that pile of stuff in the garage just sitting there collecting dust and wondering when you’re ever going to get rid of it? This one-day class will teach participants how fun and profitable it is to sell on eBay.

Mary Beth Smith will instruct the class scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. in lab Room 238 of James M. Ewing Hall.
Registration fee is $25.

Instant Piano Class

In this class, participants will cover fundamentals so that they can learn to play virtually any pop tune with both hands. But it does not stop there! Participants will take home a specially prepared CD and workbook to continue the learning process at their own pace.

David Haynes will instruct the class scheduled to meet on Wednesday, Feb.18, from 6 to 9 p.m. in Room 118 of James M. Ewing Hall.

Registration fee is $50, payable to Delta State University, and a material fee is $25, payable to the instructor.

Early registration is encouraged due to a class size limit of 25 participants.

GMAT Prep Workshop

In this workshop, participants will learn test taking strategies and skills, time management tips, plus ways to reduce GMAT exam anxiety. Preparing for the GMAT exam is always a challenge. For those of you who have already taken the test, this workshop will help you improve your score.

Dr. Clifton Wingard and Mary Ann Jabbour will instruct this workshop scheduled for Feb. 2, 9, 16, 23 and March 2 and 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. inRoom 114 of Broom Hall.

Registration fee is $85 per person, which includes prep materials.
