Delta State to host business conference for women and minorities

The Delta State University’s Center for Community and Economic Development, the College of Business’ Small Business Development Center and the Office of Procurement and AmeriCorps*VISTA Project A.S.S.E.T.S., will serve as hosts to the first Business Conference for Women and Minorities, Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 8 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.in the State Room of theH.L. Nowell Union  on campus.

 
Small businesses are the driving force of the American economy, providing goods and services as well as creating jobs within the community. The purpose of the conference is to build those critical skills required to own and operate a business in the Mississippi Delta. 
 
Those attending will be able to attend a variety of training seminars such asCustomer Service, Business Incubators, Contracting Opportunities,and many more. Over lunch, attendees are treated to a panel of experts regarding Sources of Funding.  A “State Agency Vendor Fair” will also be held during the afternoon. Those attending will be able to meet others with similar backgrounds as well as becoming familiar with state agencies with whom they will work closely with in the future.
 
The Center for Community and Economic Development, and the College of Business’ Small Business Development Center at Delta State, has a longstanding partnership of recruiting and educating individuals on the importance of investing and entrepreneurship.

The workshop is open to the public and is free of charge, though reservations are required to assure the appropriate numbers of meals are prepared. Entrepreneurs and those involved in economic development are invited and encouraged to attend.
