Delta State Music Department students win at Mississippi Music Teachers Competition

Eight Delta State University Department of Music students competed in the Mississippi Music Teachers Association competition in Oxford on March 6.

 

In the Concerto Competition, junior Steven Hugley was awarded 1st Place, and sophomore Austin White received 2nd Place.

 

In the Junior/Senior Piano division, senior Katy Saxton-Koehler was awarded 2nd Place. In the Junior/Senior Woodwind division, junior JJ Hatfield was also awarded 2nd Place. In the Freshman/Sophomore Woodwind division, freshman Robyn Rouse received an Honorable Mention.

 

In the Junior/Senior Woodwind Chamber Music competition, the Delta State Saxophone Quartet of Steven Hugley, sophomore Austin White, freshman Rondell Evans and junior Will Bryer won 1st Place. Second Place was awarded to the Delta State University Flute Trio, comprised of freshman Jessica Egdorf, JJ Hatfield, and Robyn Rouse.

 

The saxophonists are students of Dr. Bret Pimentel, and the flutists study with Dr. Shelley Collins. Saxton-Koehler is a student of Dr. Jung-Won Shin.

 

The students were accompanied by collaborative pianists Dr. Jung-Won Shin, Jessica Taylor, and Saxton-Koehler.
