Delta State Department of Social Work’s Debbie Simmons Awards Program seeks applicants

As a memorial to Debbie Simmons, who graduated from Delta State with a Bachelor of Social Work in 1990, her husband, Calvin Simmons, and children, have established an awards program in the Delta State University Department of Social Work to honor excellence in social work in the Delta.

 
The program consists of three parts which includes scholarships to students, monetary awards to honor social work practitioners, and mini-grants for innovative projects. 
 
The Debbie Simmons “I Care” Social Work Recognition Award is a cash award of $1000 to a licensed professional BSW or MSW who exemplifies excellent social work practice in the community and demonstrates the caring nature of Debbie Simmons.
 
Applicants must be serving in Bolivar, Sunflower, Washington, Grenada, Coahoma, Humphries, Leflore, Tallahatchie, or Quitman counties. The recipient will be announced at the Margaret Tullos Field Symposium on March 4.
 
The application must be postmarked by Feb. 16. 
 
Applications are available for pick-up in the Department of Social Work in Room 306 of the Capps Archives and Museum on campus.
