Delta Recovery Project to host Community forum for agencies that provide services to the unemployed

By October 20, 2009General

The Delta Recovery Project – an AmeriCorps*VISTA project at Delta StateUniversity’s Center for Community and Economic Development, will host a community forum for agencies/organizations entitled “Meeting the Needs of the Unemployed,” Monday, Oct. 26, at 9 a.m. at the Alumni and Foundation House on the campus.

The mission of the Delta Recovery Project is to provide individuals and organizations with the skills and knowledge they need to implement and sustain programs within their Communities.

The VISTA members with the Delta Recovery Project serve to create and expand opportunities for low income individuals and the organizations they serve, in one of the following areas: (1) financial literacy, and (2) employment skills and training.  Each project area has a plan of long term sustainability to assist Delta communities during the economic down turn. The plans of sustainability include collaborations with community residents, organizations, and businesses in the community.

This forum will be very informative as we discuss possible partnerships with local WIN Job Centers, Career Centers, and other agencies that provide career guidance to the unemployed, students, and those in transition from one job to another.
