Candlelight choral concert set to impress

By December 2, 2013College of Arts and Sciences

Delta State University’s Choirs will present the 2nd Annual Candlelight Concert on Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Cleveland.  The concert will feature Lewisburg High School Capriccio, Holmes Community College Concert Chorale, the Delta Choral Union and the Delta Youth Chorale in collaboration with the Delta State University Choirs in this performance of well-known holiday music.

The concert will feature about 135 students, including more than 60 individuals that are interested in attending Delta State as music majors and members of department ensembles.

The concert will feature several favorite holiday classics such as I’ll Be Home for Christmas and Jingle Bells. The finale will be Silent Night sung by candlelight as it was at the first performance in Germany two centuries ago. As each choir leaves the stage the audience and choirs will sing Christmas Carols together in the spirit of communal singing.

There is no admission fee for the concert, but donations are gratefully accepted. The Delta Youth Chorale will perform at 6:30 p.m. in their inaugural performance and the other choirs will begin at 7:00 p.m. For more information, please call Dr. Nicholaus Cummins at 662-846-4115.
