More than 75 students participated in this year's Big Event in the Cleveland community.

Delta State students, staff and faculty joined Cleveland community members on Saturday morning to celebrate the upcoming Earth Day. The Big Event, sponsored by the Student Government Association, Keep Cleveland Beautiful and the City of Cleveland, featured city beautification projects, a citywide cleanup and hazardous waste collection.

More than 75 students participated in The Big Event, and Kappa Sigma Epsilon won the attendance challenge.

The focus this year was centered around the tagline “Our Commitment. Our Community. Our Cleveland.” created by SGA. These words were included on a t-shirt that each volunteer received.

Beautification projects included cleanup, landscaping and/or painting at parks and city resource centers. Bags and gloves were provided for litter cleanup in assigned areas. Materials like paint and electronics were also collected for proper disposal. Lunch was served at the downtown Cleveland gazebo to all volunteers who helped complete these projects.

The partnership between Delta State and the Cleveland community is mutually beneficial and essential to the developing area. The Student Government Association enriches the partnership through its service to the campus community.
