Services for James Donald Cooper set for today

Services for long-time Delta State University employee James Donald Cooper have been set for today (April 21).

Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m., with services following at 2 p.m. Both will take place at Cleveland Funeral Home.

Cooper, 75, of Boyle, died Saturday, April 15, at Indywood Estates in Cleveland. He attended Delta State College and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education in 1963 and a Master of Education in 1968. While at Delta State, Cooper was a charter member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and the Phi Mu Alpha music fraternity.

He began his career at Delta State in 1969 and served in many roles including Admissions Counselor, Registrar and Director of Admissions. He retired from Delta State in 2001 and was given the title of Registrar Emeritus for his many years of service. He remained active at Delta State by attending every home football game, not missing a single game from 1970 to 2016. He also attended every commencement ceremony from 1968 until December of 2016. In 2014, Delta State named the Registrar’s office in his name.
