Delta State’s Divisions of Languages & Literature, Social Sciences & History honor top students during ceremony

CLEVELAND, Miss.—Two Divisions within the College of Arts and Sciences at Delta State University recently paused to honor high-achieving students during the 2020 academic year with honors and scholarships.

The Divisions of Languages and Literature, and Social Sciences and History celebrated their top students during a special ceremony Thursday, April 15.

“The community at Delta State University has had a challenging year as we marked the transitions from primarily in-person, face-to-face learning to online and hybrid models over the last thirteen months. Nevertheless, our community of students has persevered,” noted Michael Smith, interim chair of the Division of Languages and Literature, and Dr. Chuck Westmoreland, chair of the Division of Social Sciences and History.

“In appreciation of their efforts, the Divisions would like to note the following students for their accomplishments this year.”

Honorees from the Division of Languages and Literature include:

Anna Sims of Cleveland, Miss.—Professor John R. Ford Shakespeare Award

Kelly Foster of Flowood, Miss.—Doye Stallings Mitchell Scholarship, Maude E. Pittman Scholarship, Coffman Creative Writing Award, Rose Drake Burrell Scholarship, Dr. Maria Butler Endowed Retention Scholarship

Morgan Raper of Cleveland, Miss.—John and Dorothy Merill Scholarship

Skylar Andrews of Richland, Miss.—Weaver Betts Cotton Scholarship, Maude E. Pittman Scholarship, Elizabeth Wynn Lewis Scholarship

In addition, Riley M. Hardin of Olive Branch, Miss., and Mollie M. Pinion of Greenville, Miss., were inducted into the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society.
