Opening of DSU Art Department’s 2020 Annual Juried Student Exhibition on March 5

Delta State University’s Art Department will host an opening reception and awards ceremony for its Annual Juried Student Exhibition on Thursday, March 5 from 5 to 7 PM.

The Annual Juried Student Exhibition highlights work students have produced in the past year and gives them opportunity to gain professional experience by preparing it for exhibition and submitting it to a jury process. Students are also eligible to win monetary awards in a variety of categories. The awards are made possible through the generous support of art patrons from the Cleveland community.

This year’s juror is Mark Geil, associate professor of photography at Jackson State University. He earned a B.A. in liberal arts, emphasis photography, from Evergreen State College and an MFA in photography from the University of New Mexico. His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions across the United States.

In conjunction with the Annual Juried Student Exhibition, DSU’s chapter of the art honor society Kappa Pi will organize a Salon des Refusés in the Holcomb-Norwood Annex to display some of the artwork that did not make it into the main event.

Awards will be presented at 6 PM. The Annual Juried Student Exhibition will remain on view until April 16. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 8 AM to 5 PM and Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM.
