Opening Reception for Mathews-Sanders Sculpture Garden Biennial Companion Exhibition on Aug. 22; Show Continues through Sept. 26

By August 20, 2019

An opening reception for an exhibition of sketches and maquettes celebrating the work featured in this year’s Mathews-Sanders Sculpture Biennial will be held on Aug. 22, 2019, from 5 to 7 PM in the Fielding Wright Art Center Gallery on the Delta State University campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Painter Nan Sanders B.A. and B.S.E. ’67—a driving force behind the Mathews-Sanders Sculpture Garden—will briefly talk about the history of the biennial. It debuted in 2000 under the vision of Pam Mathews, an artist and then DSU’s first lady, whose goal was to grow a permanent collection of public art through a competition every other year.

The exhibition continues through Sept. 26. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 8 AM to 5 PM and Friday 8 AM to 4 PM.
