Delta State University once again received significant funding from the Tri State Educational Foundation to support graduate students pursuing the master of education degree in elementary education—in this round, $150,000 for 20 of the next generation of teachers. They will be honored at a grant announcement ceremony on Tuesday at 2 PM in the Jacob Conference Center, James E. Ewing Building.

“The exponential power of this financial assistance to students in the Tri State service area continues to be staggering,” said Leslie Griffin, dean of the College of Education. “The Tri State Foundation remains a pillar of support for the Division of Teacher Education, Leadership, and Research at Delta State University.”

Since 2008, the Tri State Educational Foundation has supported students in the elementary education and educational leadership programs at both the master’s and specialist’s levels. The Tri State Educational Foundation also continues to fund undergraduate scholarships and the Jacob-McRaney Scholarship. In total, the Tri State Educational Foundation has awarded approximately $1.5 million to the College of Education to enable candidates at all levels of preparation to pursue their education.

“There is no way to estimate the impact of these gifts, especially when one considers that the financial support is coupled with personal support from Tri State Foundation Chair, Dr. Bob Ferguson, and his wife, Sylvia, who are both Delta State grads and longtime school professionals, he as a superintendent and she in teaching and early childhood leadership roles,” continued Miller. “The Fergusons commit to individuals, not just programs. They take a personal interest in each candidate and understand the community they serve.”

Dr. Merideth Van Namen, chair of the Division of Teacher Education, Leadership, and Research, added: “By providing opportunities for both educators and administrators in the Tri State area, the Tri State Educational Foundation has improved the lives of not only these scholarship recipients but also countless k-12 children.”
