The Office of Student Affairs presents the second annual Dancing with the DSU Stars on April 30 at 7 p.m. in the Bologna Performing Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The show is modeled closely after the “Dancing with the Stars” television show.  Participating Delta State dancers will be partnered with a husband and wife professional team out of Memphis — Benji and Beth Smith of DanceSmiths Ballroom Dance Studio.

2018 Participants include:

  • Ashley Griffin, Student Government Association president;
  • Dr. Vernell Bennett, Vice President for Student Affairs
  • Ronnie Mayers, Athletic Director
  • Christie Rocconi, director of Financial Aid
  • Jeffrey Farris – director of Alumni Affairs
  • Dr. George Beals -assistant professor of counselor education and president of DSU’s Faculty Senate

Dr. Vernell Bennett said the event will build on last year’s momentum.

“The success of last year’s show made recruitment for this year’s contestants an easy task,” said Bennett.  “Our theme continues to be ‘Bringing the campus and community together for some toe tappin’ fun!’ It was great to have so many individuals from the community in the audience last year, and the audience dance contest was a fun way to get everyone involved.”

“Benji and Beth Smith of DanceSmiths Ballroom Dance Studio of Memphis are providing the instruction again this year,” added Bennett. “They will perform on the program, as will top dancers from their studio. Senator Willie Simmons has agreed to return as a celebrity judge.”
